SUMMARY

Supervises one or more engineering/technical functions.  Plans and directs the work of subordinates. Estimates manpower, schedules completion dates, monitors progress, and evaluates results.  Ensures that work meets company standards and schedules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Primary/major job responsibilities that will be performed by this job.

Responsible for managing engineering resources to achieve corporate goals.
Leads a team focused on design, analysis, documentation and the introduction of new product mechanical design solutions.
Plans, directs and evaluates projects or major phases of significant projects, coordinating the efforts of engineers and technical support staff.
Analyzes, evaluates and determines the appropriate methods to achieve solutions to highly complex technical problems.  Performs comprehensive analysis of critical components to eliminate possible failures.
Assures that work performed follows objectives and is completed on time and within budget.
Conducts investigations and tests of considerable complexity.  Recommends corrections to technical applications and analyses.
Supports design engineering, new product development teams, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain in resolving materials related issues.
Manages own engineering projects working on the team, designing new components, and aligning with vendor and manufacturing plants to launch new products or product changes.
Recruits, trains and mentors employees; assign, direct, evaluate work and oversee development.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
6+ years of experience.  Prior experience leading and directing projects or teams is required.
Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles.
5+ years of experience in management/supervision (manufacturing preferably)
Prefer experience in refrigeration

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Skills, abilities, or special licenses needed to perform the job (software, professional certifications, drivers’ license, languages, etc.)
Strong knowledge of Mechanical engineering principles and practices, including: plastic, sheet metal parts, assembly design and assembly processes, including welding, fasteners, molding and finishing
Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software, solids modeling, and stress analysis.
Ability to work well within a team environment and across multiple functions
Demonstrated ability to lead a team and mentor technical people.
Ability to meet assigned deadlines
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Knowledge of process improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma)
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills

DECISION MAKING
Describe the level of decision making and extent that this job can structure objectives/activities and affect outcomes.
Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of business or technical support or production team.  Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors.  Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives guidance and oversight from manager.

PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS

Manufacturing:
Works predominantly on the manufacturing floor. May be exposed to heat, electrical and mechanical hazards, noise, solvents, dust, dirt, fumes, contaminants, cold, noise, vibration, etc.
Climbing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing and ability to move material weighing up to 40 lbs
Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance tasks on tools and equipment
Ability to use of hand tools, power tools, gas torches and measuring instruments
Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals and use measuring equipment
Requires standing for prolonged periods of time
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Must be able to walk and use hands
Ability to read, write, listen and speak

Non-Manufacturing:
Typically work is in an office environment where the noise level is low to moderate
Requires standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time
Ability to lift boxes/materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
Requires telephone work and/or computer work, as well as interactions with other employees and customers
Ability to read, write, listen and speak
