Job Title: Technician I – Manufacturing Production Engineering
A brief description of the primary purpose of this job.
Under general supervision, sets up, operates, and adjusts various types of conventional or automatic machines including lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other precision equipment.
Primary/major job responsibilities that will be performed by this job.
Analyzes blueprints, engineering specifications and general engineering instructions to plan, set-up and execute work assignments.
Replaces defective parts and reassembles and installs various operation mechanism. Determines nature, extent and necessity for repair or replacement of defective parts or entire mechanisms comprising the operating machinery and related equipment.
Designs and constructions tools, dies and fixtures required to machine experimental parts or prototype equipment.
Provides day-to-day technical support and assists engineers in related problem resolution.
Sets-up and makes first inspection checks on difficult production runs. Verifies conformance of finished work piece to prints and specifications and perform secondary operations such as deburr, chip removal, bushing, tapping, drilling, etc.
Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. May identify and repair minor machine malfunctions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The minimum education and experience required to successfully perform the essential functions. Preferred requirements can also be included in this section.
High school diploma or GED and up to three years of machinists experience. Completion of a two year technical program is preferred. Requires knowledge of various metals and measurements used in machining processes.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Skills, abilities, or special licenses needed to perform the job (software, professional certifications, drivers’ license, languages, etc.)
Ability to operate machine tools, precision measuring devices and equipment
Ability to weld
Ability to read blueprints and sketches to determine the appropriate set up and operating requirements
Strong mechanical aptitude
Knowledge of CNC programming
Strong mathematical skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Works predominantly on the manufacturing floor. May be exposed to heat, electrical and mechanical hazards, noise, solvents, dust, dirt, fumes, contaminants, cold, noise, vibration, etc.
Climbing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing and ability to move material weighing up to 40 lbs
Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance tasks on tools and equipment
Ability to use of hand tools, power tools, gas torches and measuring instruments
Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals and use measuring equipment
Requires standing for prolonged periods of time
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Must be able to walk and use hands
Ability to read, write, listen and speak
