A brief description of the primary purpose of this job.
Under general supervision, researches, writes, edits, indexes, and revises technical documentation.
Position Description: Technical understanding. Proficient in ProEngineer or other CAD software. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and other Adobe CS software. Ability to work on many projects concurrently. Job Duties: Instruction Manuals, Service Manuals, Parts Lists, Labels, etc.
New Technical Writer Qualifications
Emphasize CAD ability and technical knowledge over writing experience.
Ability to conduct independent in-depth research into models through bills-of-material, spec sheets, part drawings, vendor packages, control sequences-of-operation to create Literature with minimal reliance on SMEs.
Ability to use CAD (CREO/Pro-E) to create exploded views for parts lists and illustrations for instruction manuals, service manuals, and instruction sheets. Ability to use Illustrator to modify illustrations.
Basic electrical and refrigeration knowledge preferred.
Primary/major job responsibilities that will be performed by this job.
Creates and revises technical documentation to support the operation, repair, and maintenance of company products.
Analyzes and interprets engineering drawings as well as other technical data to translate information into technical documentation.
Communicates complex information clearly, concisely and accurately.
Proofreads and edits documents to ensure information is complete and up-to-date.
Works closely with project managers, engineers, and other technical staff to clarify and create technical copy for product information and specifications.
Updates documentation on the internet and intranet as needed.
Ensures consistency in documentation across multiple publications regarding terminology, style and editorial quality standards.
Revise Instruction Manuals, Service Manuals, Parts List, Labels, ect.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The minimum education and experience required to successfully perform the essential functions. Preferred requirements can also be included in this section.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Business or related field and 2 years of technical writing and editing experience or an equivalent combo of education and experience. Experience developing manuals, user guides, and/or product specifications is preferred.

Excellent grammar, verbal and written communication skills
Skill in using InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop, and Illustrator or comparable editing software
Skill in creating illustrations using CAD
Knowledge and application of standard document formatting
Knowledge of information gathering, planning, and organizing methods and principles
Ability to work independently, organize assigned work and manage time
Special skill set: Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and other Adobe SC software
Ability to multi task

Works predominantly on the manufacturing floor. May be exposed to heat, electrical and mechanical hazards, noise, solvents, dust, dirt, fumes, contaminants, cold, noise, vibration, etc.
Climbing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing and ability to move material weighing up to 40 lbs
Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance tasks on tools and equipment
Ability to use of hand tools, power tools, gas torches and measuring instruments
Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals and use measuring equipment
Requires standing for prolonged periods of time
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Must be able to walk and use hands
Ability to read, write, listen and speak
Typically work is in an office environment where the noise level is low to moderate
Requires standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time
Ability to lift boxes/materials weighing up to 10 lbs
Requires telephone work and/or computer work, as well as interactions with other employees and customers
